In Signo Leonis Heribert Bayer Wine Estate

Wine itself, but above all making wine, the creation, the careful attention given to soil and type, to the expressive power of the grape varieties is my great passion.

Raised as a vinophile, I began to concentrate very early on wine in my own studies, without suspecting that my hobby would become my profession many years later.

It happened as apparently it must. Several years of consultation followed the Austrian wine scandal in 1985 before I created my own wine, "In Signo Leonis" Mörbisch Pinot Noir, in 1994. As before, I work today as a "Negociant Eleveur".

The Neckenmark Hochberg in the heart of Blaufränkisch country is the home of my red wines. It is certainly among the best red-wine vineyards in Austria. Very old vine cultures, rigorous yield limitation, the greatest care in handling the grapes and a differentiated fermentation process ensure the high power of expression in my wines.

I love extremity and what is unmistakeable. My credo is for deep, extremely fruit-concentrated red wines, which bear my signature and are not easily interchangeable. "Avant-garde 2000" is a young Zweigelt brought to maturity in a steel tank. Primarily fruity, elegant and lively, it is suitable for uncomplicated drinking pleasure at a high level.

"Sails Red" Blaufränkisch Hochberg is the name of the vineyard wine, which ages for 18 months in twice-filled barrels. The depth of fruit coupled with a fine woodiness, tightness and sturdy tannin mediates the Blaufränkisch power for the lovers of this grape variety.

The In Signo-Linie – the premium wines of the house are aged exclusively in new barrels.

"In SignoTauri" Pinot Noir is a wine for the demanding Burgundy lover.

"In Signo Leonis". This cuvée of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and a little Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship of the house and for years has been one of the very best Austrian red wines.
