Wines and Vintners

Schloss Gobelsburg Wine Estate

The vineyards stretch all around Gobelsburg Palace – each with its own speciality and uniqueness, each with different soil and microclimatic conditions. From the sun-drenched terraces on the Zöbinger Heiligenstein and Gaisberg, to the extensive vineyards around Gobelsburg, it is possible to offer every grape the best possible chance for cultivation appropriate to its potential.

Thus every vineyard can be seen as an individual entity, with locations that can be brought to maturity with circumspection and care. Nature-friendly wine growing was already a leitmotif at Gobelsburg Palace when Father Bertrand was still responsible for the estate. The introduction of organic dung, the relinquishing of weed-killers or the reduced use of plant-protection means are not new regulations but traditional practices.

Although in earlier time the life of a vintner mainly took place in the cellar streets, which were in the near vicinity of the vineyards, Gobelsburg Palace always had its own wine cellar. The oldest part of the palace dates back to the 11th century. The cellar was continuously extended through the centuries.
