Hillinger Wine Estate 

The Hillinger family have cultivated vineyards for generations in Jois in Burgenland. Following many years as a journeyman in Germany and California, in 1990 Leo Hillinger took over the wine estate and began with structural reforms, which within a few years made the business one of the top wine-growing enterprises in the Lake Neusiedl region. Despite restructuring of the business, investments in cellar technology and the integration of a completely new design, Hillinger still adheres to the original values and qualities of wine growing.

Hillinger has forced top wines since taking over the business. The primary aim is to achieve a level of quality through integrated organic and biotechnical wine growing that is acknowledged internationally.

His efforts to increase the quality of wine brought rapid success, which was confirmed by international awards:

the time was ripe – in May 2004 the official opening of Leo Hillinger’s new wine estate took place. In modern wine cellars, sensitively integrated on a bank of the lake by the architect Gerda Gerner, wines mature in oak barrels according to the traditional values of wine growing, which has been handed down from generation to generation.
The 2003 vintage was already processed in the new complex so that the entire wine collection can be presented in one location.

Always searching for new challenges, in 1997 Hillinger purchased twelve hectares of vineyards in Rust in the best locations and immediately extended the business to a total of 15 hectares. This purchase brought above all an enormous increase in the volume of high-quality white-, red and sweet wines. The share is 30% white wine and 70% red wine.
