Sattlerhof Wine Estate
The Wine Estate
The Sattlerhof is located to the south of Gamlitz, on a steep hill with a wonderful view of the landscape of southern Styria. The community area is called Sernau, and house number 2 of the Sattlerhof tells one that this is a centuries-old address.
The farm has provably been in family possession since 1887. Willi Sattler completed his training at the Styrian School of Viniculture in Silberberg and was already responsible for processing wine at the Sattlerhof since he was 22.
He runs the estate today together with his wife Maria.
Countless national and international awards emphasis the exceptional value of the wine estate. Willi Sattler places special importance on physiologically and perfectly ripened grapes. He harvests them in various selections and cultivates each one separately. Willi Sattler’s great passion is cultivation, and he seeks the ideal cultivation style and procedure for every wine charge in constant dialogue.
The white wines are temperature-cooled and fermented in stainless-steel containers. The “Styrian classic” wines are filled after March and show a maximum of fruitiness and freshness. The carefully selected grapes from the individual vineyards are aged as single vineyard wines. They bear the vineyard’s name on the label.
According to variety, following the alcoholic fermentation the wines are subjected to organic malolactic fermentation in barrels or in large wooden vats. The small share of red wines is explained by the climatic and geological conditions that are predestined for white wines. Among the red wines, Sattler place his trust in the Blauburgunder and St. Laurent varieties.
