Schmelz Wine Estate

Our wine estate is small but exquisite.

The cultivated vine area comprises eight hectares and stretches for six kilometres downriver between Wösendorf and Unter-Loiben.

The many microclimates in the Wachau, and the varying geological correlation of the soil, enables a diversity of nuances of taste in the wines.

Together with the main Veltliner and Riesling varieties, we also cultivate Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Yellow Muscatel and Zweigelt.

Our well-known vineyards: STEIN AM RAIN, PICHL POINT, STEINRIEGL, BUSCHENBERG, DÜRNSTEINER FREIHEIT.
We have been a member business since the founding of Vinea Wachau and place great value on cultivating the wines of the Wachau.
This association membership entitles us to stock the STEINFEDER - FEDERSPIEL - SMARAGD quality categories, which are subject to the severe control of the Vinea Wachau Association.

We can open our cosy wine tavern several times in the year for you to enjoy our wines by the glass (also by the bottle) with traditional homemade dishes. Irrespective of within the cosy inn, or during the warm seasons in our lovely courtyard and garden far from the noise of traffic, we and out team will endeavour to make your stay pleasant.
